Andrew Chung is a film writer/director, based in Toronto. His short films Ma, Lovebites and White Elephant have screened at festivals around the world, and been broadcast on Air Canada, CBC and the Super Channel.
Audiences are used to associating work that addresses society's social upheaval with heavy subject matter. But Andrew says he's working in that space just by being himself. "The fact that I'm an Asian filmmaker, working in Canada, in North America, is alone addressing the upheaval," he says. He is naturally led to tell the stories of marginalized groups based solely on who he is.
In our latest episode of Long Story Short, Andrew talks to us about being an Asian filmmaker in the Western world, having a constantly evolving voice, the value of collaboration, and his goal of directing a Marvel film.
