Reed Morano
Reed served as director and Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed Pilot and Episodes 2 & 3 of "The Handmaid’s Tale" for Hulu and MGM based on Margaret Atwood's beloved book. Of "The Handmaid’s Tale", Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “depending on the moment, you might spot the influence of a Kubrick, Cuarón or Campion, but this is as original and confidently directed a set of early episodes as I've seen in years.” Anticipating the premiere, Vanity Fair named Reed one of six TV Power Players to Watch in 2017. Following its release Indiewire ranked "The Handmaid's Tale" on the 20 Best-Directed TV Drama Series of the 21st Century.
In television, Reed directed the Season 2 premiere of "Billions” for Showtime and “Halt and Catch Fire” for AMC, in addition to “The Handmaid’s Tale". One of Indiewire’s 20 Best Breakthrough Directors of 2015, Reed also earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for cinematography in her stunning directorial debut “Meadowland” starring Olivia Wilde & Luke Wilson where she also served as the film's cinematographer. The film premiered in competition at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival to compelling reviews: Clayton David of Awards Circuit celebrated the film’s performances, praising Reed’s direction and calling Olivia Wilde “electrifying” — “her finest acting performance of her career yet … simply astonishing,” he continues.
In 2015, Reed was honored at the Fusion Film Festival and named their 2015 Woman of the Year. In June of 2017, Reed was presented with the Distinguished Vanguard Filmmaker Award at the UCLA Directors Spotlight. Reed is a lauded cinematographer as well, known for her work on festival favorites such as "Frozen River", "Kill Your Darlings" and "Shut Up and Play the Hits." In 2013, she was inducted into the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers as the youngest member as well as 1 out of only 12 female cinematographer members at the time. She was honored with the 2011 Kodak Vision award for cinematography at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy awards, and in past years has been named one of Variety's "10 Cinematographers to Watch", one of ioncinema.com's "American New Wave 25", and one of five innovative cinematographers in ICG Magazine's "Generation Next" Spotlight. In 2012, Reed's work was featured in Indiewire's "On the Rise '12: 5 Cinematographers Lighting Up Screens in Recent Years." and "Heroines of Cinema: An A-Z of Women in Film in 2012."
