Behold—the dawn of our MONTHLY edition of Here’s The Work! *cue choir of angels*
Although the frequency of our Here’s The Work newsletters has changed, our focus remains the same: we’re thoroughly committed to showcasing the incredible work of Free The Bid directors! This newsletter represents a curated selection of the commercials, branded content, short films, and music videos that were directed by the talented directors in Free The Bid’s global database and released this month! We also wanted to pay a special tribute to the Free The Bid directors whose work screened at the 2019 Sundance Festival this month.
Of course, the filmmakers on our database have also been hard at work on feature films, documentaries, episodic TV, webseries, innovation projects, and even more! Bear in mind, too, that while this list showcases the work of Free The Bid directors, our site also is a one-stop shop for discovering editors, colorists, composers, and DOPs. A commitment to freeing the bid doesn’t just stop at hiring a woman director—enrich your crews with women across production roles!
Now that that’s out of the way, scroll down, dig in, and start discovering!
SUNDANCE
This year’s Sundance Film Festival was an incredible showcase of talented women directors. The lineup included the following Free The Bid directors, including Free The Bid founder Alma Har’el, who made her narrative feature debut with her film Honey Boy!
A massive congrats, all!
Sundance has made a huge recent effort to diversify its programming, and the 2019 festival is proof that these efforts are gradually beginning to pay off. As reported by Indiewire, this year’s lineup, “boasts 47 features directed by women (39 percent) and 39 shorts directed by women (53 percent). All told, 45 percent of all short and feature films at this year’s festival were directed by women.”
As of the time of this newsletter, many of these films have been acquired for streaming and theatrical release, so be sure to go to see them when you can!
