For May’s edition, we asked talented AAPI (Asian American / Pacific Islander) creators from our database to nominate a fellow creator from the AAPI community who they think should be “up next”.
Andrew Thomas Huang nominated Andrew Truong:
“Andrew is an intimate collaborator, relentlessly experimental, a truly great artist and cinematographer. His work with artist Tuan Nguyen is super inspiring.”

“She’s a remarkably talented director and someone whose work I really admire.”
Luo Jian nominated Mingjue Hu:

“Ming is a cinematographer who thinks like a director–in the best way. The short film we made together, “What Do You Know About the Water and the Moon,” premiered at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival and screened at over 40 cool places, including the BFI London Film Festival and Palm Springs International ShortFest. I’m sure he is becoming a better and better filmmaker every day, and I can’t wait to tell more stories together.”
Aika Miyake nominated Sayaka Nakane:

“Sayaka’s love for art and music is deeply ingrained in her works, making them truly exceptional. She is both badass and kind as a person, and I admire that a lot. Also, Sayaka throws the most fun and unforgettable parties in Tokyo!”
